Twinning
Sturry, Fordwich and District/Aire Sur-La-Lys Twinning Association
Do you enjoy visiting France and wish to know more about the French way of life? If so, why not join in the social and cultural activities provided by the Twinning Association. The main objective of the Association is to bring together the communities of Sturry and Fordwich, and Aire-sur-la-Lys, a medieval town a short distance from Calais. The highlight of each year is the exchange visit between families in Sturry, Fordwich and Aire which has led to longstanding friendships. We also encourage sporting and cultural exchanges. Did you know that both Aire and our locality share our coal mining heritage? You can find out much more about Aire by looking at the town's official website http://www.ville-airesurlalys.fr/
Our Annual Reunion in 2012 will be on Saturday 12 May here in Sturry and Fordwich. Your committee will be meeting with colleagues from Aire early in the New Year to plan the event. We would like to include Fordwich more actively in this year's visit; we would like to have at least one formal event in Fordwich and one in Sturry. Ideas for the activities we might provide for our French visitors would be most welcome. Please send your ideas to the Association's Secretary.
Our next event fund-raising event will be another fabulous Quiz Night on Friday 2 March at Broad Oak Village Hall. Please support the occasion so that we can continue to promote our friendships with Aire. Our quiz night in February 2011 was said to be the most successful of all the various quiz nights run by different organisations at the Broad Oak Village Hall.
