STURRY PARISH COUNCIL RESPONSIBILITIES

Sturry Parish Council is responsible for maintaining the following areas and items of equipment:

  • Sturry Cemetery, Cedar Road, Sturry
  • Park View Playing Field and children's play area, Park View, Sturry
  • The Centenary Woodland, Park View, Sturry
  • Hersden Recreation Ground and children's play area, The Sycamores, Hersden 
  • St. Nicholas Closed Churchyard, Church Lane, Sturry
  • War Memorial in the Closed Churchyard 
  • Broad Oak Village Green, Sweechgate, Borad Oak
  • Forge Gardens and Public Toilet, Mill Road, Sturry
  • Bakery Green, Mill Road, Sturry
  • Library Green, High Street, Sturry
  • Bus stop shelter, outside Sturry Station, Island Road, Sturry
  • Concrete bus stop shelter, Mill Road, Sturry
  • Roadside seats in Sturry, Broad Oak and Hersden
  • Litter bins  and dog litter bins in Sturry, Broad Oak and Hersden
  • Salt grit bins in Sturry, Broad Oak and Hersden
  • Christmas Lights in Sturry Village 

In addition to normal Parish Council duties Councillors also act as representatives on the following Committees/Organisations:

  • Kent Association of Parish Councils
  • Kent Rural Community Council
  • Aire sur la Lys Twinning Association
  • Stephen Bigges Charity
  • Broad Oak Village Hall
  • Sturry Social Centre
  • Hersden Community Centre
  • Hersden Youth Centre
  • Parish/Police Forum
  • Sturry Over 50's Group (SOFG)
  • NHS Trust
  • Joint Transportation Board
  • Sturry Guides & Scouts

The Council liases with Canterbury City Council and Kent County Council regarding Highways and Traffic matters and comments on planning applications and works in partnership with several local organisations.

Sturry Parish Council also works closely with many organisations in the Parish. Following a public consultation the Parish Council was instrumental in helping to set up the now very successfull Sturry Over 50's Group which  has over 200 members.

The Parish Council employs the Clerk, Admin Assistant, Cemetery Superintendent, Park Warden, two Litter Clearers, Toilet Cleaner, Office Cleaner and six Magazine Deliverers.
